UNION OF SOULS Michael Dyer © 2006 Lovely, country lady, what do you say to me, by the low tide. I have, just been gazing at the breakers. Now I know, we must decide. Our reaching, eyes and vision; our decision to, with two smiles. In taking, your hand in mine, you follow me and we walk a while. And lo, the lonely behold; partake, the union of souls, Of souls, of souls. Light, reveals its source, as the sun breaks forth, across the land. Waves, release their force, upon the sands, as we hold hands. Water, unites in streams, and returns to be, with the endless sea. And lo, the lonely behold; partake, the union of souls. Of souls, of souls. Lovely, country lady, you’re the one I’ve sought, and you’ve sought me. To believe, and be consumed. Love’s misery, is love’s mysterious room. And lo, the lonely behold; partake, the union of souls. Of souls, of souls. We hold on, to each other, oh so tight, in the new sunlight. We walk on, the sky is in flight, now as lovers, the world seems so bright. We float on, the past was alright, but as lovers, the future’s delight. We float on, the past was alright, but as lovers, the world’s a delight. We float on, the past was alright, but as lovers, the future’s delight. And lo, the lonely behold; partake, the union of souls. Of souls, of souls.

Story

The guitar for this song is tuned to a low-C balanced tuning. This "mystical folk-rock" song goes through many different chords (especially when compared to standard folk-rock songs). The chords used are: A#, Cm, C#, D, D#, E, F, Gm, G, and G#. I was deep into seeking spiritual enlightenment at the time that I wrote it.

THE TREK Michael Dyer © 2006 A caravan of oxen lumber slowly near the place where I have slumbered. Can the morning’s semi-pace, have encumbered me so soon? As the crust my sore eyes hold in, opens, rusting iron bells do toll in the town I am to lose my soul in, down the road. Many days in lonely mountains, with a sun-trekked path and the only sounds in my head, of voices dead and companions lost, long ago. As I stand the hopeful gather. They wail and kneel but it doesn’t matter. With scattered souls running pitter-patter. Seeking the blest, but finding no rest. Can the mystic nymph of laughter, hold me back from the now and here-after? Can the priestess, with a subtle kiss, release me from this abyss? Can the child-man sage’s vision, come to one when one’s of age And the grave and death’s derision let me go? If so, I draw nearer and I soon will know.

YOU’RE THE ONE Michael Dyer © 2006 You’re the one. You’re the one. There is no two or three. You’re the one. You’re the one. The one that has to be. You’re the one. You’re the one. The one I can’t deny. You’re the one. You’re the one. I really don’t know why. You’re compelling me to act. The truth is this simple fact. I’ve just got, got to react. How can I stay on track? I just can’t pull back, ‘cause… You’re the one. You’re the one. The one who spins me ‘round. You’re the one. You’re the one. So sad you’re underground. To bad you can’t be found. I’ve had to try to rebound. I would scream, just to hear one sound from you, ‘cause… You’re the one. You’re the one. The one that’s just for me. You’re the one. You’re the one. The one that makes me see. You’re the one. You’re the one. There is no four or five. You’re the one. You’re the one. Oh how can I survive? Oh, woman, help me strive. How, can I stay alive? I’m in a deep, steep, dive, ‘cause… You’re the one. You’re the one. You are the one. You’re the one. You’re the one, the only, only one. You’re the one. You’re the one. You are the one. …

LUCK OF THE NIGHT Michael Dyer © 2006 Waiting for, the luck of the night to begin. Carried off, on a shoe string. With the luck I bring, Up for havin’ a midnight fling. Betting on forever, rather than for never, Knowing who you are. Of every sorrow and sad smile That lingers for a while, That wears out, without Wondering why. We’re all waiting for the same train. All playing the same game. All hiding the same pain. Who hesitates may deny, never having a bad goodbye But you’ve gotta try. We’re all waiting for the same train. All playing the same game. All hiding the same pain. Who holds back may rely on, never having a bad reply. But you’ve still got to try. Waiting for, the luck of the night to begin. Up for having a midnight fling, Up for being a one-time king, Up for glidin’ like a bird on the wing, Up for finding a bee to sting, Up for something that packs a zing! Betting on forever, rather than never, Knowing who you are. With the luck of the night. With the luck of the night. With the luck of the night. With the luck of the night. With the luck of the night.

Story

This song was inspired by my experience in building (and living in, with a small commune of friends) a geodesic dome in the woods of New Hampshire. This song is for everyone who loves the Earth and worries about her.

Lyrics

.
EARTHSONG Michael Dyer © 2006 The Earth has had few lovers, where have they all gone? The Earth has had so few lovers, so for them let’s sing a song. But for you who, plot our graves, it won’t be long. ‘cause they’re taking our space away, ‘cause they’re covering the light of day ‘cause they’ve sat in our rightful seat, now they’re taking our last retreat. And I fear, She’s dying here, right beneath my feet And I fear, She’s dying here, right beneath my feet I never could understand the man, who walked away I never could understand the man, who threw his rights away. But when the time for chaos comes, he’ll surely pay. ‘cause they’re taking our space away, ‘cause they’re covering the light of day ‘cause they’ve sat in our rightful seat, now they’re taking our last retreat. And I fear, She’s dying here, right beneath my feet And I fear, She’s dying here, right beneath my feet. The Earth has had her users, who’ve done her so wrong. She’s had so many abusers, about them we sing this song. ‘cause when the time for chaos comes, they won’t belong. ‘cause they’re taking our space away, ‘cause they’re covering the light of day ‘cause they’ve sat in our rightful seat, now they’re taking our last retreat. And I fear, She’s dying here, right beneath my feet And I fear, She’s dying here, right beneath my feet. And I fear, She’s dying here, right beneath my feet And I fear, She’s dying here, right beneath my feet.

Another "mystical" folk-rock song, inspired when living in a tent while building a geodesic dome in the woods.

NOTHING SEEMS LIKE WHAT IT SEEMS Michael Dyer © 2006 Asleep, awakened, high above, the many few below. Alone, together, are the stars, too blind now to behold. All naked, we are covered, by the hopes we dare not hold. Remember, we’ve forgotten us, too deaf now to be told. The inside out of everyone, is silence in a sound. Forgotten, we’ve remembered us, too drunk now, to be drowned. The shadows float above our heads, cast light upon the ground. Below the dark has won its fight. Too lost now, to be found. Oh, up is down. Straight is round. Wide awake’s a narrow beam. Nothing seems like what it seems, Until you’re home with me. The young look old and fire feels cold, The nights are rather mean. Nothing seems like what it seems, Until you’re home with me. Oh, A is Z. There’s a missing key, and water never cleans. Nothing seems like what it seems, Until you’re home with me. I feel your lovin’ in my dreams, awake I cannot be. Nothing seems like what it seems, Until you’re home with me. Nothing seems like what it seems, Until you’re home, with me.

Story

I was camping out while building a geodesic dome in the woods of New Hampshire (with some good friends) at the time that I started writing this song.

THE DAWN IS STILL Michael Dyer © 2006 The dawn is still, within our sheets we still are warm. The night rain has gone, with some midnight storm. My love is pressing, close to me, closed are her eyes. My lips brush hers. They open without surprise. She turns and curls up, with the memory of her dreams. I have the same dreams too. It’s what our love should mean. Throughout the night, our darkened eyes gave not a glance To catch forever, there’s not, not a single chance. Oh why does all that starts, always have to have an end? Why can’t all broken hearts, only simply mend? A dewy maze, of gossamer, upon the ground. Our sleepy haze and the dawn’s, the dawn’s approaching sound. My wistful mind is like the frosted window pane. As it will find, only memories will remain. Oh! only if the night right now could put the sun to sleep. This morning, when she must leave, would never come.

Story

The start and end of love and life and how short is the time inbetween.

Lyrics

.
YOUNG OLD MAN Michael Dyer © 2006 In a morning’s misty dawn, a young man hears a song. A distant song. Her voice, so soft and pure. But then it’s gone. He knows, she may not come again, so he hurries, at all cost Be sure to find her, before his love is lost. That young man, he’s filled with longing. He knows that, by belonging, He’ll find pure bliss, with the morning mist. In an evening’s twilight hour, an old man views one flower, one fading flower. He’s waiting for its end to come, with the setting sun. He knows, that tomorrow, new ones will appear, as they do, year after year. But a melancholy still lingers, and he touches that dying flower, with dying fingers, for it is lost forever. That old man, he’s filled with sorrow. Oh will he ever see tomorrow? Oh, his love is done, is done, is done, with the setting sun.

ALL IN GOOD TIME Michael Dyer © 2006 All in good time, our toys must unwind, Leavin’ behind, all we defined, as wealth, along with our health. We’ve heaped up a bundle, but it’s all gonna crumble. All in good time, our ploys must unwind, Leavin’ behind, all we defined, as truth, and the end of our youth. The memories have fled, left little, instead. All in good time, our joys must unwind, Leavin’ behind, all we defined, as love, They’re the ones we think of. Now we’re tryin’ to buy, a smile, a sigh. All in good time, our dreams must unwind, Leavin’ behind, all we defined, as hope, We’ve had enough rope, To hang ourselves high, Now we’re left, high and dry. All in good time, our clocks must unwind, Leavin’ behind, all we defined, as life, The end of our strife. We’ve been gettin’ ahead, instead of flyin’.

TRANSLUCENT Michael Dyer © 2006 I never really knew you. I looked right through you. Sorry, I never really meant, to make you feel so, translucent. But now I see, so clearly. Now I see you are, so dear to me. But now you pass, right through me. Now I know, just what you meant. ‘Cause now I’m the one, who has become, so translucent. I never really held you; never let myself just melt with you. Sorry, I never really meant, to make you feel, so translucent. Did a few things right, but many wrongs. Now my sorry soul just longs for you. But now you pass, right through me. Now I know, just what you felt. ‘Cause now I’m the one, who has become, so translucent.

Story

Of course, "Full of It" started out as "Full of Sh..t" but I guess I prefer understatement :-)

Lyrics

.
FULL OF IT Michael Dyer © 2006 You swore me a love that would never quit. How could you be, so full of it? You swore, together, we’d make one big hit. In retrospect, you were just full of it. You claimed to do a lot, not just gripe and sit. Oh, you were so full of it. I deserved better… one who doesn’t just throw a fit. One who’s not just so full of it. I thought your words had passion and wit. But now they seem so full of it. You claimed you’d make our pieces fit. But now it’s clear you were full of it. You swore you had courage and grit. In hindsight, you were quite full of it. I deserve better… one who doesn’t just throw a fit. One who’s not just so full of it. You swore me a love that would never quit. How could you be so full of it? Oh, so full of it.
